Painter and decorator in Kesh

Kesh is west Fermanagh, by Lower Lough Erne. It is exposed, often damp, and a sensible exterior job as well as an interior one.

Kesh is the village on the north shore of Lower Lough Erne, out through Ederney from the Omagh side. It is about half an hour to forty minutes from Martin, depending on the townland. Bungalows and scattered houses are the usual properties, and once someone is on site it often makes sense to do more than one room.

The weather is the story. Gables face the lough, north walls go green, and fascia boards soften at the ends. Paint is wasted on timber that has already gone soft. He will say if a board needs replaced before a coat is worth putting on. He is a decorator, not a roofer, so replacement of rotten wood is a separate decision. Masonry wants a breathable exterior paint, put on when the wall is actually dry. That can mean waiting.

Inside, bungalows with yellowed woodwork and a hall that needs paper are the ordinary brief. Towards Pettigo the road meets the border. Martin’s own description of the business is Tyrone and Fermanagh, north or south: if a job is just over the border and it fits the same trip, ask. He will tell you if he can do it.
