Irvinestown is roughly halfway between Omagh and Enniskillen, about twenty-five minutes from Martin. It is the first Fermanagh town on that road, with its own main street, town-centre houses, and bungalows out towards Necarne and the country roads. People searching for a painter in Irvinestown do not need a firm coming across from the east of the province.

The usual mix is paper in the hall and paint through the rooms, or a whole bungalow that has not been touched since the woodwork yellowed. Stairs in the older town houses are narrow, which is fiddly rather than a reason to skip them. They are where a decorating job is judged.

Outside, the town is not as exposed as the west shore of the lough, but north-facing render still grows green and peeling sills are common. Exterior coats are booked for a dry week, not forced through a wet one. If you are between Irvinestown and Enniskillen, Ballinamallard is on the same road and is covered the same way.
